Is open burning allowed in Town limits?
Open burning is allowed with a permit unless a fire ban is in effect. Garfield County fire bans are normally issued between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Contact the Fire District to obtain a permit or for further information. (970) 285-9119

When will irrigation water be available?
The irrigation system is normally turned on the middle of April, depending upon the weather.
4.
My renter has left with an unpaid water bill. Am I responsible for payment?
Utilities are the responsibility of the home owner. Water will be shut off to the home if the current charges are not paid. We encourage landlords to include the water bill as part of the rent to avoid unnecessary charges should a renter default.

When is court and what time does court start?
Parachute has court once a month. It is the second Monday of the month, unless that day is a holiday, in which it is usually moved to the first Monday. Court starts at 7:00 am.

How can I pay for my traffic fines or my court fines?
Payments can be made by cash, money order or certified bank check, and by credit or debit cards. If using a credit / debit card it must be the person whom the card is issued to calling in the payment by phone.
3.
I have been assigned Useful Public Service Hours, how long do I have to complete them?
If you have been assigned 24 hours, you have four weeks from your court date to complete it.
If you have been assigned 36 hours, you have six week from you court date.
If you have been assigned 48 hours, you have eight weeks from your court date to complete it.
4.
Whom do I contact to complete my Useful Public Service Hours?
There is a list of non-profit organizations that you may choose from. If you do not live in Parachute, you may complete your hours with similar agencies where you live. If you are not sure, contact Parachute Municipal Court Clerk at (970) 285-7630.

Whom do I contact for Minor in Possession Classes or Drug and Alcohol Evaluation in this area?
You may use any license agency. The most frequently agency used are White River Counseling, located in Rifle at (970) 625-3416 and Glenwood Springs at (970) 945-1288. Youth Zone has offices in Rifle at (970) 625-3141, and in Glenwood Springs at (970) 945-3440. Gonzalez Counseling Services in Glenwood Springs at (970) 384-1384, this agency specializes in Spanish speaking persons.

If I have been assigned to a Minor in Possession Class or Alcohol Evaluation, when do I have to comply by?
You need to complete or be registered for these classes within four weeks from your court date. At times the classes are booked a month or two in advance, so it is important if this occurs, you will need to provide the court with documentation of registration and/or completion of these classes.

I received a no proof or insurance citation, but I do have valid insurance. Do I have to come to court?
No. This court will accept proof from your insurance company, which should be on the letterhead, that must include the name of the driver; make, model, and year of vehicle; the vehicle’s identification number; and that your insurance was in effect on the date your received the citation.

There is a $10 fee for dismissal of the citation. You must sign a Verified Motion for dismissal.
8.
Can I change my court date?
You must contact this Court before your court date if you are not able to appear. It may be possible for the Court Clerk to change you court date one time only. To contact the Court Clerk, please call (970) 285-7630.
9.
I missed my court date, what are the consequences?
If you did not appear on your court date and have not been in touch with the court clerk prior to you court date, an arrest warrant or an Outstanding Judgment Warrant (suspended driver’s license) will be issued.
10.
There is a warrant for my arrest, how do I take care of this?
You may turn yourself in to the Parachute Police Department at any time. Make sure to have the bond money or another person who can bond you out in order to avoid spending time in jail.
A bail bondsman may act as a surety. Once the bond is paid, the warrant will be canceled and you will be set for a bond return hearing. You will appear before the judge and penalties will be assessed. If the penalties are less than your bond amount, the remainder of the bond will be returned by mail.

When can I get a VIN Inspection?
The Parachute Police Department does VIN Inspections on Fridays between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
You can bring your vehicle to the Town hall or ask us to come to you if you are within the Town limits.

Where can I get a Certified VIN Inspection?
The
Garfield County Sheriff's Office
and the
Colorado State Patrol
are able to assist in this service.
3.
I need my finger prints for employment. Where do I get this done?
You can come to the Police Department on Friday between the hours of 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

Do I need to bring my own finger print card?
Yes. Your employer or the organization you are applying for should provide you with a card.

How do I get a copy of a police report?
You may request a copy of a police report by contacting Police Records at the Police Department. For more information, please visit

6.
I need a criminal background check for employment. Can I get this at the Parachute Police Department?
No, the Police Department will only check the records pertaining to any police contacts in the Town limits of Parachute. You may contact the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and request one through them. For more information, please visit

7.
How do I get a list of sex offenders that live in the Town?
You may obtain a list by coming into the Police Department and requesting a list from the Police Records Clerk. You may also get a county-wide list at the
Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
8.
My vehicle was towed by the Police. How do I get it out of impound?
You will need a valid driver’s license, proof of ownership, and valid insurance. You may bring these documents into the Police Department, show them to an officer, and they will verify the documents before handing you a release form.
9.
What if I do not own the vehicle, and the owner lives out of the State / Town?
Then you will need the owner to provide you with a notarized letter authorizing the Parachute Police Department to release the vehicle to you. You will still need to provide a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
10.
I am new to Parachute. Do I need to license my dog with the Town?
Yes. All dogs within the Town of Parachute require a dog license. You may obtain a dog license through the Town Hall.
11.
When I came home I found a Community Awareness Notice on my door. What does it mean?
This is nothing to worry about. The notice is only a courtesy. The Police Department will post one of these notices when an officer sees a potential hazard or a safety concern, and the issue will be mentioned on the notice left on the residence, vehicle, or business.
